Boulder Mountain Lodge

The idea behind the Boulder Mountain Lodge is to create a hub for adventure travelers from away and within our Boulder community. We believe that time spent in the mountains is the key to our sanity (and a great vacation). Run by local adventurers, Kris Klauber and Asa Firestone, the Boulder Mountain Lodge is the place to begin your Colorado Adventure.

In the early 1940s, Ira Cole purchased the land with only one structure, a run-down shack, on the property. Ira would take this place and transform it into the Wagon Wheel Motel.

A character straight out of the Wild West, Ira Cole was a jack-of-all-trades: at different times, he was a preacher (founded a church in Boulder that was the predecessor to present-day First Assembly of God), cattleman, authority on Indian folklore, and raspberry farmer. Once ensconced at this location, he learned another trade; builder, first building the stone single family home, then the south building, which he operated as a restaurant. A bunkhouse for University of Colorado students soon followed.

Ira Cole sold the Motel to the Schuler family who converted the dinning hall and bunkhouse into motel rooms. They ran it until the early 80s. In 1987 the Gibson family purchased it, and changed the name to the Boulder Mountain Lodge. Twenty-seven years and many renovations, upgrades and additions later, the Gibsons sold the lodge to its current owners. Today’s Boulder Mountain Lodge includes 30 units, comprised of Kitchenettes, Full Kitchens, Suites, and our beloved Cabin. Welcome.
